Cesc Fabregas should be fit for Tuesday’s Champions League last-16 second leg at Barcelona, according to Arsene Wenger.

Fabregas, the Arsenal captain, will have a final test on his hamstring problem today, but Wenger said: “It is 90% he will be fit.

The Gunners will be without a number of key players as they look to defend a 2-1 first-leg victory at the Nou Camp.

In Fabregas’ absence, Arsenal were held to a goalless draw at home to Sunderland on Saturday as they looked to put pressure on league leaders Manchester United.

Wenger said: “It is vital for us that he plays, he is important in the transition between attacking and defending. He is also leader of the team so we want him there.”

Jack Wilshere has declared himself fit despite picking up an ankle knock at the weekend, but Alex Song. Theo Walcott and Robin Van Persie are all set to miss out.

Wenger said: “Everybody else who played Saturday should be available.”

Barcelona will be able to field either of their first-choice central defenders with captain Carles Puyol injured and Gerard Pique suspended.
