Frank Arnesen will become Hamburg’s new director of sport when he leaves his position at Chelsea at the end of the season.

The former Denmark international is stepping down from his role as sporting director at Premier League champions Chelsea when his contract expires.

Arnesen has been with Chelsea since 2005, but the 54-year-old will now move to Germany in the summer.

“I am delighted that we have found this fantastic solution,” said Hamburg’s chairman Ernst-Otto Rieckhoff.

“Frank Arnesen has not only the aptitude that is very meaningful to us for our future thanks to his experience as  a manager at top clubs un Europe, but in particular due to his focus on youth development.”

He has accepted a three-year contract with Hamburg and is hoping to guide the Bundesliga outfit into a successful new era.

“Hamburg is a special club with a long tradition and a fantastic infrastructure,” said Arnesen.

“I am convinced that with the strength we have and the right decisions we can develop something big.”
