No matter where you are in the world, there’s one thing everyone is doing between June 11 and July 11; watching the World Cup. Just as it does every four years, the World Cup has brought about a fever that infects every nation across the world. Diehard fans will be ravenous, watching every game they can, but casual fans, or even people who aren’t fans at all find themselves transfixed by the biggest sporting event in the world. One thing you can count on wherever you are in the world is that there will be a place to park yourself and watch the matches with great atmosphere, food, drinks, and plenty of revelry to join in on. While it’s difficult to narrow down just five places around the world to watch the games, at least it gives you a place to start looking.
1. Darling Harbour – Sydney, Australia
The great city in the land down under offers a spectacular way to watch the World Cup this summer. Sydney’s famous Darling Harbour is home to the site of Sydney’s International FIFA Fan Fest. This includes gigantic screens all over the harbour broadcasting each game live from South Africa. One screen even sits on a stage that floats in the harbour itself. There’s a wide variety of international cuisine on offer, all the beer you can drink, and football oriented competitions to keep people entertained during halftime.
2. Bongeunsa Temple – Seoul, South Korea
This may be the best place to watch the World Cup finals if you find yourself in Asia. North and South Korea are at this year’s tournament and Koreans go crazy for their football. The experience of watching the game on the big screen with the “sea of red” supporters is something to behold.
3. Nevada Smith’s – New York, USA
The unofficial go-to place to watch football in NYC is of course the famous Nevada Smith’s in the East Village of Manhattan. With multiple screens covering the front room, including a massive projector in the back, you’re sure to catch a glimpse of the action. But it’s not the TV’s that make this bar special, it’s the incredible atmosphere generated by the fans of every country in the World Cup.
4. Shepherd’s Bush Pavilion – London, England
While London is crawling with football specific pubs to watch the World Cup in, the World Cup Carnival 2010 in Shepherd’s Bush is the place to be. With an enormous 800 seat indoor terraced amphitheater, equipped with a 16-meter HD screen and full surround sound, it’s guaranteed to be a good time. Especially when you throw in the evening line up of DJ’s after the matches. There’s gourmet food, cocktails and beer, giveaways, and all kinds of half time entertainment.
5. The Cobal In Humaitá – Rio De Janeiro, Brazil
Anywhere in Brazil is sure to be rocking during the World Cup. So much so that it’s tough to find a top place in the capital of Rio, but for a great atmosphere, check out the Cobal In Humaitá. They even turn the parking lot into a seating area during the games so people can enjoy the beautiful Rio weather while soaking up the football festivities.
