The Swiss football team for the FIFA 2010 World Cup South Africa™ is to be given a rousing African welcome by its host, the Emerald Resort & Casino in Vanderbijlpark.
The Emerald Resort & Casino’s staff and management, 30 performers – including dancers, praise singers, a choir and drummers – and security and police personnel will be on hand when the Swiss team’s bus pulls up outside the resort’s hotel on 10 June, the day before the tournament kicks off.
As the Swiss players and team management walk down the red carpet to the hotel, the performers will welcome the team in true African style, which will include traditional dances to the beat of the drums, and the choir will bestow their blessings on the team by way of soulful, rhythmic praise songs.
“We are very excited that the Swiss team have chosen the Emerald Resort & Casino as their official home base during the World Cup, and we are looking forward to their imminent arrival,” says Emerald Resort & Casino CEO Martin Rice.
“To mark their arrival at the Emerald, we have laid on a proper African welcome, which includes the passion of beautiful African singing and the power and majesty of the drums. It’s the kind of performance that stirs the blood of locals and visitors alike, and we hope that it will inspire these very special guests of ours.
“The Emerald Resort & Casino would also like to take this opportunity to wish the Swiss team all the very best of luck for the games ahead. They are travelling a long way to make their mark on the tournament, and we will do everything we can to help make their stay as enjoyable, memorable and successful as possible,” says Rice.
