Platinum Stars renews Jabu Mahlangu’s contract

0 Comments 29 July 2009

The former Bafana Bafana midfielder, who has 20 international caps to his name, put pen-to-paper on the new deal on Tuesday.

He will be available for selection for coach Steve Komphela at the 2009 Telkom Charity Cup to be played at the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace on Saturday, where Stars will meet Mamelodi Sundowns in the semifinals.

The former Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and SuperSport United player made seven appearances for Stars in the 2008/09 campaign, having joined in January this year, the last of which came on March 4 in a 0-0 draw with Free State Stars.

“We have structured the deal to keep Jabu focused,” Stars managing director Ian Riddick says. “It is an incentive-based contract and we are hoping he will carry the tremendous enthusiasm he has shown in training through to matches this season.

“To have a player of the quality of Jabu, with his international experience, in the squad will be a great boost to Steve Komphela and his technical team. He has undoubted ability and we look forward to seeing him in a Platinum Stars shirt once again.”

Stars open their 2009/10 Absa Premiership campaign against Jomo Cosmos at the Rand Stadium on August 8.
