Platinum Stars held a highly successful Imbizo to assist Supporter Co-ordinators on Saturday, July 18, mobilising the grassroots support for the club in the North West and neighbouring provinces.
The workshop, held at the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace Media Centre, was devised to give the 120 Supporter Co-ordinators who attended an insight into the future plans of the club, and how to grow their individual supporter’s branches.
“We had co-ordinators from the 29 villages in Phokeng, Rustenburg, Klerksdorp, Potchefstroom, Brits, and some of them even came from as far as Seshego in Polokwane,” Stars managing director Ian Riddick says. “The club shared its organogram, marketing plans and campaigns that it will be embarking on, as well as the supporter research that it conducted in the North West province.
“We were delighted with the turnout and the enthusiasm shown by the co-ordinators. They are a vital part of the club as they give us a day-to-day presence in their various communities and we are confident of their ability to grow the Platinum Stars brand across the country.”
Co-ordinators will be incentivised for signing-up new supporters and adding numbers to the individual clubs within their areas, but one of their first tasks was to drive votes for the club’s participation at the 2009 Telkom Charity Cup, which will be held at the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace on August 1.
“We would be delighted to be involved in such a prestigious occasion and with it being staged at our home ground, the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace, it would make it extra-special for the players and the fans,” Riddick said. “We have big plans for Platinum Stars this season and our coach, Steve Komphela, would love to unveil our new-look side at the Charity Cup.”
Votes can be lodged for Stars by dialling 086 22 22 413 or sending an SMS with ‘Platinum Stars’ to 34620.
