Sundowns-kit-09While incorporating Nike’s modern innovative technologies, the most prominent feature of the kit is its striking design in the tonal stripe.  The home jersey consists of a vivid yellow colour-way, while the away jersey is set in the club’s royal blue.  Both jerseys are an expression of the Sundowns pride that echoes the clubs famous colours.

“The cut and design of the new Nike jerseys reflects the care and elegance of the tailoring which brings international style and passion to the football pitch. Coupled with Nike’s innovation, the new Mamelodi Sundowns kit is a vibrant inspiration to the team to perform to the highest standards on pitch,” says Seruscka Naidoo, Public Relations Manager, Nike South Africa.

The Brazilians, as the club is affectionately known by its loyal supporters in South Africa, will take pride in donning the new kit at their first home game of the 2009/2010 PSL season in early August.

Says Alex Shakoane, Communications Manager for Mamelodi Sundowns: “Sundowns are excited to get the new season underway, and to do so in the new stylish team kit is sure to give the team that much needed inspiration to have a successful season.  We know that our loyal supporters will take as much pride in wearing the new Nike jerseys.”

The Mamelodi Sundowns home and away replica jerseys are now available in leading retail stores.

About the kit
Rooted in the club’s traditional colours of the Sundowns yellow and royal blue, the new home and away kits feature a three-dimensional construction in a striking modern design with tonal stripes.

The home jersey consists of the vivid yellow colour-way, with the away jersey being royal blue.  Both jersey feature a green v-neck collar and cuffs.

The jersey is made from Nike’s Dri-Fit fabric, which keeps players drier, cooler and lighter by drawing moisture from the body to the fabric’s surface, while its three-dimensional construction gives more air space around the skin to reduce clinging.

The engineered mesh paneling is a performance feature to offer players even greater ventilation during games.

I don’t know if its me only but Sundowns are really starting to push the boundaries when it comes to living up to their nickname, “the Brazilians.”
One could swear that they are trying to emulate the Brazil national team not just in colours & sponsors but now in actual look of their kit?!

It would have been nicer I think if they put a little more effort in how their are going to differentiate themselves from the Brazil national team but I guess one can argue that they are operate on two differents levels?!

Or maybe one could also argue the case of FC Basel and FC Barcelona who both have very similar looking kits but ja. Just wanted to share my thoughts on that about their new kit unveiling.
