Kaizer Chiefs unveils new Nike kit for new season

Daily News

Kaizer Chiefs have long been hailed as South Africa’s leading club for being both the country’s most successful and most supported team.

The club has also become a rite of passage for young, great players to wear the club’s famous Kaizer Chiefs gold jersey.  For the 2009/2010 season their new home and away kits will continue to be a desired item, capable of inspiring, joyful and brilliant football both on and off-field.

In keeping the authentic football passion alive, Nike and Kaizer Chiefs officially unveiled their new 2009/2010 home and away kits on field at the revamped Orlando Stadium in Soweto – both iconic destinations considered by many to be the home of football in South Africa.

The notable changes to the new home and away kit will give the Amakhosi a bold and striking appearance to pursue even more success.

“We are excited to launch our new home and way jerseys here at Orlando Stadium today.  Nike‘s innovation, stylish design and attention to comfort will allow us to win on and off the field. We look forward to inspiring our supporters in our new jersey and continuing to make history with our partners,” says Jessica Motaung, Marketing Director, Kaizer Chiefs.

Kaizer Chiefs will don the new kit for their first match against the super-rich international football club, Manchester City, who they play against in the Vodacom Challenge on the 21st of July 2009 in Durban. The club then head into a demanding season shortened by two months, to allow for some of their players to join the South African national team in training ahead of the international football tournament next year.

Says Anwar Jappie, Football Category Director, Nike South Africa:  “Nike’s mission is to bring innovation and inspiration to every footballer in the world.  With the start of the new season and back-to-back fixtures, we know that our players’ performances will be put to the ultimate test.  The innovation in the new Nike Kaizer Chiefs jerseys will enable them to perform at the peak, and give them a more competitive edge.”

The new home kit design features a fuller colour-way on the body and sleeves of the jersey, with black trim on the round collar, sleeves and breathable mesh side panels on the jersey.

The authenticity of the jersey lies firstly on the inside collar which has a high quality woven label that reads, ‘Kaizer Chiefs’, while engineered into the side seam is a small black label that reads ‘Amakhosi 4 Life’.

The new Kaizer Chiefs jersey is made from Nike Dri-Fit fabric, which keeps players drier, cooler and lighter by drawing sweat away from the body to the fabric’s surface, while its three-dimensional construction gives more air space around the skin to reduce clinging.

The entire back of the shirt has an engineered mesh, a performance feature to offer players even greater ventilation during games, and features the Kaizer Chiefs graphic logo.

The home shorts are black, and worn with Kaizer Chiefs gold socks.

The Kaizer Chiefs away kit retains the same distinctive features as the home kit, and consists of a white jersey worn with Kaizer Chiefs gold shorts featuring a gold stripe along the side, and white socks with a gold stripe.

Kaizer Chiefs’ home and away replica jerseys will be available in leading retail stores from the 27th of July 2009.
