In Moçambola i.e. Mozambican football league, referring is absurd and an authentic comedy leaving a lot to be desired. One wonders if there is a course for match officials or it’s a recruitment of volunteers who have the ambition to be on the spot light.
It is not easy to prove if some local referees are bribed to benefit some teams but the way the game is handled lives little doubts. I do believe, in my opinion that on the one hand some corrupt managers who can’t do their homework go on to spoil our football by bribing the game officials. I cannot cite examples of soccer matches that have been poorly officiated to benefit the others the list being endless. It is unfair to fans who sacrifice their money and efforts to support their teams but only to get frustrated by the irregularities normal committed by a bribed referee. Very few cases have called the attention of the federation in as far as disciplinary measures are concerned, with most going unnoticed or to be more realistic, ignored.
The sabotage of matches cannot wholly be attributed to bribes. Poor referring can be a result of lack of skills. Refresher courses need to be frequently taken to capacitate them. They need to read more about the subject of referring to update themselves. Only the proven fit must be selected to handle league games. I believe the federation must feel the responsibility of referring, taking strict measures were necessary.
Our referees really spoil football here and this may end up in the loss of lives on the field of play. Football like any other sport involves the player’s emotions and care should be taken not to trigger negative impulses from the players. It takes days of dedicated hard work to prepare for a match, therefore when they day comes to deliver; players shouldn’t be frustrated by ignorant and irresponsible referees. Players go there to prove their supremacy as players thus justifying their incomes and not to waste time arguing with game officials.
There is a relationship between the performance of the players and the referees. If the match official can’t maintain order on the pitch, continuous foul play will be the order of the day. The referee should have a good sense of judgment, creating balance by not pulling too many unnecessary fouls but taking care not to let fouls go unpunished. If the soccer match is not properly regulated the rhythm of the match will be affected and consequently performance and productivity will decline. This might cause tension and create chaos among fans resulting in suspension of many.
Refereeing is a very responsible work for such it needs to be carried out by responsible professional people. Referring needs a disciplined individual with clear moral values, it’s not a career for everyone. They should be prepared to accept criticism and find ways of improving their referring. Referring should, in my opinion, be a passion to save the sport from the intolerable unscrupulous, ignorant and irresponsible behavior on the soccer pitch.
